In flood-prone communities of Lagos, seasonal flooding places women at heightened risk of unsafe deliveries, infection, displacement, and disrupted access to healthcare.
Focusing on Agboyi and Amukoko, the project led by Mariam Oshodi and Mariam Ileyemi documented women’s lived experiences alongside national flood and maternal health data, revealing gaps in preparedness and response.
Evidence from government agencies, UNICEF, and climate risk data was integrated into multimedia storytelling to ensure personal narratives were grounded in policy-relevant insight.
Women participated directly through Health Resilience Circles, while national media coverage with features, a documentary, social media campaigns and radio call-ins amplified their experiences. The work attracted attention from the Lagos State Ministry of Environment, demonstrating the project’s potential to influence policy conversations and climate-responsive health planning.
