Across Kenya, menopause remains poorly understood and rarely discussed, leaving many women without information or support.

The project documented women’s lived experiences of perimenopause and menopause, highlighting cultural stigma, medical gaps, and policy neglect.

Working with Willow Health, evidence from DHS surveys and WHO reports was combined with interviews with women and clinicians in a multimedia documentary.

Through a broader digital campaign with Willow Health, the project reached women, health professionals, policymakers, and advocates, helping to normalise conversations about menopause and challenge harmful myths. By framing menopause as a public health and gender equity issue rather than a private burden, the project contributed to increased awareness, encouraged more responsive healthcare practice, and opened space for policy dialogue on integrating menopausal care into broader reproductive and women’s health systems.

“By centering African women’s voices, the project reframed menopause from a whispered personal struggle into a legitimate public health issue.”
