On the 10th of December, we celebrate the work that the Africa Health Communications Fellowship cohort has done with an online film festival event. This film festival will reflect the Fellowship’s commitment to strengthening evidence-based health storytelling across the continent and highlight the creativity, collaboration and impact achieved by the 2025 cohort. The fellows, from Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, South Africa and Zambia, worked in teams to design innovative responses to some of Africa’s most pressing health challenges, and their projects demonstrate how communication can play a decisive role in shaping public opinion, countering misinformation and elevating community voices that are often overlooked.

From tackling misinformation and amplifying women’s health issues to exploring youth-led advocacy and community resilience, the projects underscore how strategic communication can strengthen public health and support human rights. We will take a moment to look at what the fellows produced to tackle these issues. The programme features the screening of short films created by the fellows, discussions with project teams from across the six participating countries and spotlights on advocacy campaigns, community-led initiatives and published media work. These sessions delve into the processes behind each project, how fellows framed their issues, engaged communities, navigated ethical considerations and incorporated evidence into their storytelling, and the showcase will conclude with the launch of a digital repository, making fellow-produced materials more widely accessible for learning and collaboration.

Celebrate the achievements of the 2025 Fellowship cohort with us as we highlight the diverse collaborative projects, demonstrate the powerful connection between health communication and human rights, and create a space for dialogue among fellows, mentors, partners and the public. The event also seeks to inspire action by sharing practical insights on countering misinformation, amplifying marginalised voices and using storytelling as a tool for meaningful advocacy.
